Understanding and using performance metrics

The article provides information on using the PitcheroGPS web app to understand and use performance metrics.

Quick links:

Overview

There are a number of performance metrics available to analyse within the PitcheroGPS web app.

For reference, all time measurements are displayed in hours and minutes (HH:MM) and all speed-related metrics are displayed in kilometres per hour or metres per second.

Performance metric definitions

Performance metric Description Unit of measurement
Session length The total length of the recorded game or training session. HH:MM

Distance

The total distance covered during a recorded game or training session. Kilometres and metres

Default speed zones

  • Walking
  • Jogging
  • Running
  • Sprinting

Brackets for each speed zone:

  • Walking is <6 kmph
  • Jogging is 6-12 kmph
  • Running is 12-18 kmph
  • Sprinting is >18 kmph
Kilometres per hour (kmph) or metres per second (m/s)
Max speed Maximum speed achieved by an individual player in a session. Kilometres per hour (kmph)
Accelerations The number of times an individual player accelerated over the specified metres per second squared threshold (m/s²). Number of instances
Decelerations The number of times an individual player decelerated below the specified metres per second squared threshold (m/s²). Number of instances
Impacts

The number of times an individual tracker recorded a g-force greater than the specified threshold.

In practice, this would pick up heavy tackles and landings, to help with injury prevention.

Number of instances
